It was brown night on Comedy Central a couple of weekends ago after the Golden Globes. I had intended to watch Aziz Ansari’s special, but ended up watching the Golden Globes. Which was a mistake.

So in the process of trying to stay awake for the repeat at 1am, I ended up watching Russell Peters’ special Red, White and Brown. In the past I found his comedy about racial and ethnic stereotypes a bit over the top, but this particular special manages to find the right balance.

Of course, I fell asleep after that so I have yet to watch Ansari’s Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening. It’s at the top of my Netflix queue. With a long wait. Which is a good sign.

And if you’re not familiar with Ansari:

in terms of number of unique episodes, is probably Friends. But Diggnation comes close, and will soon overtake it.

They’re on episode 234, and I’ve watched between 150 and 200 of them over the past 4 years. They’re an “odd couple” pairing (Kevin’s a Mac, Alex is a PC). They’re funny and smart, if occasionally sophomoric, and have managed to hold my attention for approximately 40 minutes * 200 episodes = 133 hours. Hope to see a live Diggnation in Boston some time soon.

Mark Wahlberg is thinking about an Entourage movie. So now it’s my most anticipated imaginary movie, along with Arrested Development: The Movie and Star Wars Episode VII.

Even though Marky Mark is actively pushing Entourage, and Episode VII has been hinted at (30 years ago, and actively denied since), the only one I’d put any money on actually happening is Arrested Development. Because, every few months, we get an article like this: ‘Arrested Development’ movie: ‘It’s really happening!’ And Entertainment Weekly doesn’t lie.

∞

Remember the Funky Bunch? Before Wahlberg was Scorsese material, before he was the enormously talented Dirk Diggler, but after he was a New Kid on the Block, he was Marky Mark. And his group was Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

Just finished season 6 of one of my favorite guilty pleasures on TV. We don’t get HBO, but have blown through each season in a few days when it comes out on DVD. Right now, we have HBO for free for a few months—so we Tivo’d season 6 reruns.

This season has pay-offs for Lloyd and Turtle especially, and even E and Drama by the end. After last season’s crisis, Vince takes a back seat. And Ari… is Ari. I love this show.

Update: In case you didn’t know, Lloyd has a blog.
